The Digital Vault: A Week at the 13th Annual UF Law E-Discovery Conference

They say that justice is only as good as the information you can retrieve. As the Library Lady Lawyer, I’ve spent my career believing that no chapter should be left unread. Last week, I took that philosophy into the digital weeds for the 13th Annual UF Law E-Discovery Conference (February 24-26, 2026).


🐊 Back to My Roots: Pre-Conference Prep


As a lifelong 4-H alum, returning to the University of Florida - Fredric G. Levin College of Law (even virtually!) feels like coming home. The pre-conference sessions set a sobering tone for 2026: staying at the forefront of e-discovery isn't just a "tech advantage"—it’s a professional necessity.

In a world shifting toward complex data management and Generative AI, the master key to the vault of justice is E-Discovery.


🌐 Day 2: The Global Virtual Classroom


One of the most inspiring moments was realizing the sheer scale of modern legal education. While 150 practitioners were on the ground in Gainesville, over 4,000 of us joined from across the globe.

Over a morning "cuppa," we dived into the heavy hitters:

  • Generative AI: How it’s moving from a "novelty" to a core component of the profession.

  • Accessibility: Proving that the future of law isn't gated; it’s tech-forward and global.


📱 Day 3: "Two Phones," Slack, and the Sanctions


The final day was where the rubber met the road. We geeked out on the technical nuances that keep modern lawyers up at night:

  • The "Two Phones" Policy: Managing split SIM cards and personal device overlap.

  • The Deletion Trap: A sobering look at Slack auto-deletion and encrypted Telegram chats.


The lesson of the week: Data you don’t manage will eventually manage you. ⚖️📉

We even put our knowledge to the test with a live mini-mock trial, where 4,500 of us acted as the bench, issuing sanctions rulings in real-time. It was a creative, high-stakes reminder of what happens when preservation fails.
